Do people really need an app for that?

The lemming like rush by companies to spend lot's of money on developing an app is mostly a gigantic waste of time and money.

There are 2 questions that should be asked before going down this slippery slope to abject failure.

  1. Do people really need an app to get them what they want or need.
  2. If they do, how are they going to know about the app.

Let's take a look at the first question in more detail - wants and needs

We only have two prime motivations in life, we either need something or want something.

Needs - I need to get the brakes on my car fixed.

Want - I want a better car.

Needs - I need a new dress (I have out on weight and all my dresses don't fit)

Want - I just want a new dress.

Needs - I need to get the leaking tap fixed, it's costing money wasting water.

Want - I want the new modern looking tap fitting.
